Language school in Hamburg

The language school in Hamburg was founded in 1952 and belongs to the schools with the most experience in Germany. The three buildings with 70 classrooms are located in the old and quiet pedestrian area in the heart of the city.

The school houses approximately 50 teachers and 600 students from all over the world but also from Germany since the school has also established its name as a recognized training centre. The mixed clientele can be traced back to the cultural mixture Hamburg is known for. All teachers are highly qualified and have a university degree and the school offers every week a varied programme of activities and excursions.

Our language school in Hamburg is an officially recognized training centre for the telc-exams (The European Language Certificates). It is possible to make exams in 5 different levels according to the Common European Framework of Reference: A1, A2, B1, B2 and C1. Dates of exams on request.

German courses in Hamburg

In the language school in Hamburg it is possible to choose between intensive courses and private lessons. The intensive courses are courses for groups with 25 lessons per week.

The small groups consist of 6-10 (max. 15) participants and are offered in up to 8 different course levels. It is also possible to combine different courses. All courses are offered during the whole year, additionally we offer TestDaf and DSH preperation courses as well as Business German and special programmes like German + Sailing, German + Music and German + (unpaid) Internship.

The focus areas of the courses – depending on the course level – are as follows:

  • buildup and development of communicative abilities
  • improvement of the oral and written expressiveness
  • development of the listening and reading comprehension
  • German grammar
  • improvement of pronounciation
  • regional and culture studies

 

Course levels

The language school in Hamburg offers all course levels: starting with a total beginner course and ending with the perfection level. The indications of level of all our courses are oriented at the European frame of reference. This way, after the level homogeneous learn groups can be built so that nobody gets bored or feels overchallenged.

There are 5 levels, each level takes 8-12 weeks and starts 6 times per year.

  • German A1 (= 8-10 weeks)
  • German A2 (= 8-10 weeks)
  • German B1 (= 10-12 weeks)
  • German B2 (= 10-12 weeks)
  • German C1 (= 10-12 weeks)

A level test will be sent, together with the booking confirmation. If necessery, a short oral level test takes place on the first day of class. We are going to discuss the results with you. In general, it is possible to change the course later.

Accommodation & Arrival

Arrival: Sunday before the course starts
Departure: Saturday after the end of the course

Host families live in pleasant residential areas of Hamburg in different parts of the city and can be reached easily by public transport. You will be the only guest of your nationality accomodated in the family. You can book your accomodation with or without board.

Shared flats: You live together with young Germans, usually students or young professionals not older than 30. Naturally you can use the kitchen and bathroom.

School residence: Arrival: Friday; Departure: Friday
In the residence you can book either single or double room. All rooms have a satelite TV and WiFi. You have also a tea kitchen with refrigerator, kettle, coffee machine and dishes. It is not possible to cook in the school residence.
